317 Days

I have never had an urge to blog.  I love to write, but the old fashioned way with a pen and paper... but I have decided that the best way to keep the memories of this trip alive forever, would be with a blog.
Three years ago, T and I started talking about being able to see all 30 MLB stadiums "one day".  We have each been to a couple, but the kids have never even been to a major league game.  Living a good 2-3 day drive from any stadium makes it a little tricky to make happen...  We decided the best way to start would be through the midwest as that is where most of the teams play.  And then over the years, we would finish with the rest.


The thought was to do it in 2016. when Greg Maddux got inducted into the hall of fame.  But financially, it didn't work out.  Then we thought this past summer would work, but when I plugged the destinations into the MLB schedule, we'd only catch 5 home games making it a little pricey for not much bang.  The MLB released their 2018 schedule two days ago and I just played around a bit.  We could go from July 29-August 21, 2018 and see 11 games in 10 stadiums!  PLUS we'd end up at the hall of fame on T's birthday!  PLUS we would see M's Giants in Cincinnati!!  How crazy is that????
I have 317 Days to make this work.  I need to save money, book hotel rooms, buy baseball tickets, pack, plan, etc.  I'm hoping this blog will keep things in check.  I'm also hoping this will be a good way to reflect on the actual trip as it is happening.  It's going to go by so fast, I really want the memories to last.  Also, I hope the kids are able to add to it with their own posts and memories...
If it works out this summer, we are able to check off Minneapolis, Chicago (both teams), Cleveland, Toronto (Go Jays!), Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and St Louis.  While A isn't a huge baseball fan, she is excited to see the world other than Disney and boring old Alberta...  She is looking forward to seeing Niagra Falls and Marineland!

Day Five - Minneapolis to Chicago

Today got off to a great start!  We laughed at the people heading into Minneapolis during the morning rush hour as we zoomed right out!  Ha Ha!  And then... construction!  Bam!  It dampened our spirits, but we were still moving forward!  We found a cute State Park by Wisconsin Dells to eat lunch only to discover it wasn’t for day use. So back tracked and found a picnic table and playground. It was nice. When we got back on the interstate, we were detoured into Madison. The detour took us about 45 minutes off course and then another 45 to get back on track which got us into Chicago right at RUSH HOUR. Bam.  ha ha?  Karma kicked us in the butt! The good was that Madison is very pretty. The lake on the University of Wisconsin campus is gorgeous and I would love to live there. T would not. He was less than impressed by the detour. Day Nine - Cleveland

Today started off really early. I’m not sure why none of us can sleep in... We headed to the field two hours before game time. T wanted to watch warm ups. It was HOT!  90 degrees and no wind or clouds. Just before game time, some clouds came out to give us a little break and Jose Ramirez hit a home run and literally brought rain...  Josh Donaldson who?!?  But by the second inning, it was clear skies and straight sunshine which made us all a tad uncomfortable. Luckily for us, there was a kids zone. They got to throw strikes, hit wiffle balls, and take swings off a pitching machine.  M was in heaven!  We went back and watched some of the game with T, and melted some more. On Sundays, all kids get to run the bases after the game.  A guy at the hotel said that Terry Francone likes to go out an high five all the kids.  And that some of the players will hang out on the field signing autographs.  Sadly, this was not the case today, but they still had...

Day Eleven - Niagara Falls

There's a place I know in Ontario Where the sealions kiss, so the story goes It's amazing shows and Friendship Cove Everyone loves Marine Land You'll be spinning, diving and soaring high Our roller coaster ride will fly you to the sky Now you know what you'll say when you leave here today Everyone loves Marine Land Okay, now you all have the song in your head too!  I've been singing it all day long!! We arrived right when the gates opened and headed to Friendship Cove to see the Orcas and Belugas.  The Belugas were so playful and we could only see one orca which was a little disappointing.  I hope there isn't only one left...  but I didn't ask because I didn't want to know the truth!
